This position supports Northern Light Blue Hill Memorial Hospital (NLBHH) in Blue Hill, ME and Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital (NLMCH) in Ellsworth, ME

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Vice President of Operations, Hancock Region will be responsible for planning, organizing and directing clinic operations of physician practices, select ancillary departments and support services of Northern Light Blue Hill Hospital (NLBHH) and Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital (NLMCH). This position will oversee designated clinic operations and monitor productivity and overall effectiveness. The VP of Operations reports to the President of Northern Light Blue Hill Memorial Hospital / Northern Light Maine Coast Memorial Hospital and assists in developing and implementing the strategic long and short-range plans in alignment with Northern Light Health.

The VP of Operations will be responsible for a broad range of operational issues including quality, patient access and experience, growth, budgeting, policy making and general administration. He/she will be responsible for the administrative direction of those departments reporting directly to this position. The VP of Operations will facilitate measure, evaluate, and interpret care needs of patients and performance of staff while directing activities accordingly and meeting the directives established by the NLMCH/NLBHH President and Northern Light Health (NLH).


JOB FUNCTIONS / DUTIES:
• Responsible for the operations of the practices, ancillary, and support departments, process improvement, productivity, budget management and quality management under the direction of the NLBHH/NLMCH President.
• Ensures plans are developed and executed to meet key system indicators, goals, and metrics; including quality, safety, service, financial, and engagement performance.
• Identifies, recommends, and implements practice and hospital needs: staffing, services, equipment, other capital.
• Regional Oversight for executing project/s changes in collaboration with the EMHS and Regional Leadership teams.
• Partners with NLBHH/NLMCH President, VP of Financial Services, and VP of Patient Care Services to build and oversee operational budget and ensure practices and hospital departments manage within budgetary guidelines
• Participate in perpetuating and ensuring clinical growth and access.
• Physician/management meetings: contributes to decision-making, establishes agenda in consultation with Northern Light Health Medical Group Advisory Council leadership
• Determines economic aspects of equipment, facility, and new service decisions
• Market Service Lines and Clinical Services with patients, referring practices, with local businesses, and industry.
• Enhances operational effectiveness, emphasizing cost containment and high quality patient care.
• Assists NLBHH/NLMCH President in maintaining positive community relations and serves as liaison with other staff and the public.
• Promotes diversity and an equal opportunity environment.
• Resolves operational problems and keeps lines of communication open with staff to ensure high productivity.
• Conducts regular director meetings to discuss goals, accomplishments and strategies.


LICENSURE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Education Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Management, Accounting or Finance (or equivalent discipline) is required. Fellowship in HFMA or ACHE is strongly desired. A Master's in Business or Health Care Administration degree is preferred.

Experience Requirements: A minimum of seven (7) years in operations and/or physician practice management experience is required in related fields to include senior management and executive level functions. Local area and/or regional healthcare system operations and/or physician practice experience is desired. A minimum of three (3) years at the Vice President level required.
