Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the State Street Radiology Supervisor and/or FRH Radiology Supervisor with oversight supervision/competency assessment of laboratory duties by laboratory management, the Radiologic Technologist administers roentgen rays to neonatal through geriatric patients for diagnostic purposes. Laboratory Assistant responsibilities will include performing phlebotomy functions on all patient populations. The incumbent performs duties and tasks in accordance with performance standards established for the job. The incumbent may have access to highly confidential patient, employee and/or Mercy proprietary information, and must handle & protect the information in accordance with hospital & system policies, HIPAA requirements and the highest level of ethical standards. The incumbent is responsible for reporting all security events, potential events, or other security risks to the organization. The incumbent is responsible for participation in and completion of all patient safety initiatives appropriate to the position. Primary emphasis is on direct patient care with minimization of adverse patient reactions. In addition, the incumbent conducts all job responsibilities according to the Mission and Values of Mercy Hospital.

Requirements:

Education and training enabling State of Maine license as Radiologic Technologist and registration with State of Maine Board of Examiners or eligible, ARRT required or eligible. If a new grad, must possess a temporary state license. Must exhibit flexibility and understanding in dealing with differing physician treatment ideologies and interfacing with other departments. Must complete Laboratory phlebotomy training course and proficient in all phlebotomy competencies. Must have analytical and problem solving skills to interpret patient condition, administer appropriate invasive contrast drugs and radiation dosages while treating patients in accordance with physician directives and department protocols. Must have judgment and initiative to act independently in producing consistent, quality diagnostic results with minimal supervision. Must have excellent interpersonal skills to coach acutely ill patients, interact with physicians, nursing, families, and all levels of staff and employees. Must be able to explain highly technical information in an easily understandable manner. Must be highly accountable as the incumbent's abilities and actions impact patient care. Incumbent has access to highly confidential patient information.
