Design interface environments (websites, small screen mobile applications, hand held tablets and software) for strategic products and services grounded in meeting the needs and desires of our customers through usability. This role will work closely with information architects and/or interaction designers.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Design and refine visual interfaces of Web marketing communications, campaigns and materials, software and applications.

Develop unique and compelling user interfaces that support business objectives, usability and generate results.

Translate brand positioning strategy into fully integrated digital design solutions.

Apply technical and conceptual skills to design. Continuously strengthen individual capabilities and stay current with best design practices, information design, comprehensive typography, imagery, color, content creation and visual language systems.

Ensure quality of creative deliverables and presentations. Optimize ease-of-use and achieve an integrated consistent look and feel. Create the right visual affordances to trigger the expected user interactions.

Lead visual content creation for the Web, leveraging the IDEXX Web style guide and Web and screen design best practices.

Critique and improve ideas through final work, developing clear visual hierarchies and ensure the best quality.

Assist, develop, and uphold creative brand standards as established by design and interface teams; maintain ongoing dialogue during creative development with team leaders.

Partner with usability and/or IA team members, product managers, development teams, marketing communications and other internal stakeholders to build storyboards, proof-of-concept mockups, demos and prototypes of proposed and planned applications and features.

Conduct ongoing research of user interface development best practices. Continuously refresh knowledge of the customer experience (and ability to infuse that into visual design communications) via field insights, clinic visits, sales ridealongs, product demonstrations, trade shows and other research.

Develop understanding of LOB marketing plans, key business imperatives and objectives, and product and market knowledge.

Participate on and lead marketing communication teams and projects. May include project planning, scheduling and obtaining resources to ensure that objectives are met.

May mentor, train and coach others.

May directly manage staff, assign work, monitor activities, evaluate performance and manage escalated/critical issues. Administer employment actions, provide coaching and guidance to staff and promote staff training and development. May support the development of department budget, policies and procedures.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

Bachelors Degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, or related field or equivalent work experience.

EXPERIENCE:

10+ years of professional visual interface- and web graphic design experience in an agency or as a member of a marketing or internal communications department.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Expert experience with design tools such as PhotoShop and Illustrator

Proficient in Mac and PC environments with Adobe CS5 as well as Microsoft Office
(Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Viseo.

Basic understanding of technical platforms and terms (i.e. HTML, HTML5, CSS, XML, Java, CMS, etc.)

Strong foundation of formal graphic design theory, typography, color, iconography/identity, information design and HCI theory and the appropriate design techniques for different channels.

Solid knowledge of digital and web production, including medium-specific technical standards, file setup and file formats for various screen sizes

Experience with conceptual design and creative prototypes as well as UI design process, best practices, trends and techniques

Basic understanding of user research techniques and their value in the design process

Portfolio of idea-driven concepts with well articulated and executed information design

Ability to internalize customer needs/motivations and design interfaces that generate results and or improve the customer experience

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate proactively with others in a cross-functional team

Communicate effectively in writing, verbally and as a presenter. Ability to articulate aesthetic and visual design principles. Ability to work with all levels of the organization.

Ability to organize, manage details, balance multiple priorities and meet deadlines (or communicate deviations)

Strong attention to detail and a commitment to delivering highly-polished prototypes under strict time constraints
