Ecological Risk Assessment Specialist Position Description

Part to Full-time Scientist IV

NE district, Department 5803

Position responsibilities include:

Conduct Ecological Risk Assessments.

Conduct natural resource damage assessments.

Work with and summarize environmental laboratory/analytical data.

Gather and verify ecological benchmarks, toxicity information, physical properties, and other necessary information for conducting ecological risk assessments

Learn and become proficient in running food web models (in Microsoft Excel).

Learn and use Microsoft Access/database tools for risk assessment (screening, summary statistics).

Be familiar with federal and state regulations/guidance documents for conducting risk assessments.

Writing and text editing in Microsoft Word

Problem solving, internet research

Attend and participate in department meetings and risk assessment practice meetings.

Maintain work quality, quantity, and efficiency at or above department and risk assessment practice standards.

Taking direction from project managers and delegating to junior staff

Requirements:

Degree/Education Level:

BA or BS in any of the following or related area:

Health or Environmental Science/Studies

Chemistry

Biology

Ecology

Natural Resources

Toxicology

MS in any of the following or related area:

Health or Environmental Science/Studies

Chemistry

Biology

Ecology

Natural Resources

Toxicology

Years Experience in similar position: 8-15

Skills:

Proficiency in conducting ecological risk assessment.

Proficiency in conducting natural resource damage assessments preferred.

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word

Basic knowledge of Microsoft Access (proficiency a plus)

Strong math skills

Statistics knowledge a plus

Knowledge of environmental regulations

Behaviors/Traits:
