Contech Engineered Solutions is seeking a Product Development Engineer to support our Scarborough, Maine location. The Product Development Engineer will perform engineering analysis, design, and project management for the development of new and improved construction products. Research and understand the construction products market in relation to customer needs and future outlook. Use that information to develop, improve and/or assist in acquiring products and technologies to drive the future growth of the Company.

Primary Responsibilities:

Execute design projects from concept stage to completion. Produce CAD models and drawings; create BOMs; develop cost-estimates; write new product specifications; create assembly/installation procedures; and provide manufacturing support as required.

Engineering project management for new product development (NPD) projects using the Company s Stage-Gate NPD process. NPD project deliverables include: feasibility assessments, determining and analyzing customer needs, product conceptualization and design, prototyping/testing, design for manufacturability, production preparation and product launch.

Work cross-functionally with other colleagues and teams to develop products of maximum profitability.

Prepare and conduct engineering tests on new products, including the design and construction of laboratory test apparatus, working scale models and full-scale prototypes.

Perform engineering calculations and provide technical support regarding current and new designs.

Research and understand the technical and commercial aspects of the construction products industry in relation to customer (internal and external) needs and future outlook. Maintain awareness of emerging technologies and materials relative to our business. Research adjacent markets (technological and geographic) for product and technology opportunities.

Research and analyze new competitive products, patents and patent applications.

Requirements

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering. Must have at least five years of experience with developing, designing and bringing successful products to market.

Must be hands-on, highly motivated and energetic team player to take ownership of product development projects and lead to successful completion. Must be able to prioritize and manage several projects at once with an ability to maintain critical project timelines.

Strong engineering project management skills including coordinating the activities of other functions as they relate to NPD projects. Detail oriented and analytical with excellent communication, problem solving, and interpersonal skills. Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.

Experience in performing engineering design and analysis and the development of 3-D solid models utilizing SolidWorks or similar.

Experience with material, component, and vendor selection is required. Must be able to quickly learn our materials and processes and available materials and technologies.

Must display creativity and innovation in product design, enhancement and cost reduction.

Professional Engineering license or desire to obtain PE license a plus.
