Police Department-
The City of Portland, Maine is looking for a visionary law enforcement professional to assume leadership of its Police Department, composed of 216 employees (156 sworn, 60 civilian). The Police Chief is responsible for overall management of departmental programs, including patrol/community policing, criminal investigations, communications, administration, and management of a $13.4 million operating budget. The right person for this job will be a seasoned law enforcement professional with strong organizational, administrative, communication, and financial management and leadership skills, demonstrated capacity for innovation and creativity, and ability to work effectively with a unionized work force. Key to the individual?s effectiveness in this role will be the ability to forge relationships within the department, within the City?s management team, and with Portland?s increasingly diverse and multilingual communities, where 72 languages are spoken.
