Inventory Management Specialist
JOB SUMMARY:

America's Logistics Combat Support Agency

The Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) is a U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) agency. DLA provides worldwide logistics support for the missions of the Military Departments and the Unified Combatant Commands under conditions of peace and war. It also provides logistics support to other DoD Components and certain Federal agencies, foreign governments, international organizations, and others as authorized.

DUTIES:

As an Inventory Management Specialist, you will be responsible for the following duties:

This position may be filled at either grade level, please indicate the grade for which you want to be considered,
incumbent may be non-competitively promoted to the next grade level in the time frame allowed by the merit
promotion regulations and upon management's request. Promotion is contingent upon satisfactory completion of
required training, regulatory requirements and demonstrated ability to perform the duties.

At the GS-07 level, incumbent will participate in formal and on-the-job training designed to prepare them for
advancement to the target level position. Assignments are designed to provide diversified experience as a foundation for future

responsibility.
Responsible for performing inventory management and maintaining stock records for all Shop Stores material used for repair,

storage and issue in support of Naval Fleet and Navy wide agencies and activities.
Maintaining contact and follow up with vendors and agencies of the Department of Defense and other agencies as necessary to

ensure timely receipt of material for Shop Stores
Acting as central point of contact and providing information for shipyard departments concerning availability of Shop Stores

materials.
Initiating action for the determination and redistribution or disposal of excess, obsolete or deteriorated material.
Rendering stock status and special reports as necessary
Responsible for making all stocking decisions related to the items assigned to manage and ensure that adequate range of depth of

stock is maintained

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

To qualify for an Inventory Management Specialist, your qualifications must include:

A. GS-07 Level Qualifications: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is in or related to the work of this position. To be creditable, specialized experience must be equivalent to the GS-05 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military or private sector. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including time-in-grade (General Schedule (GS) positions only), time-after-competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement. Examples of creditable specialized experience include:

Maintain inventory control records in an automated system for parts needed in support and maintenance programs.
Maintain a segment of a cataloging database at a central cataloging facility involving the records for a variety of parts and equipment for Federal use in maintenance and repair operations.
Plans, evaluates, and selects appropriate sites and facilities for storing items.

OR

B. Education: To qualify at the GS-07 level based on education in lieu of specialized experience, applicants must possess one full year of graduate level education or superior academic achievement. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. Education must be from a college or university accredited by an organization approved by the U.S. Department of Education. See http://ope.ed.gov/accreditation/Search.aspx. If using education to meet basic qualifications, YOU MUST SUBMIT A TRANSCRIPT as supplemental documentation.

OR

C. Combination: A combination of qualifying education and experience as referenced above totaling 12 months in A and B above, may be used to qualify for this position.

D. GS-09 Level Qualifications: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is in or related to the work of this position. To be creditable, specialized experience must be equivalent to the GS-07 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military or private sector. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including time-in-grade (General Schedule (GS) positions only), time-after-competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement. Examples of creditable specialized experience include:

Resolving issues and controlling actions in an inventory management function for a complete category of materials.
Monitoring a block of computer programs to determine their efficiency in meeting established information requirements and recommending changes
Monitoring, resolving problems with, and coordinating solutions for a major commodity area

OR

E. Education: To qualify at the GS-09 level based on education in lieu of specialized experience, applicants must possess a master s or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. Education must be from a college or university accredited by an organization approved by the U.S. Department of Education. See http://ope.ed.gov/accreditation/Search.aspx. If using education to meet basic qualifications, YOU MUST SUBMIT A TRANSCRIPT as supplemental documentation.

OR

F. Combination: A combination of qualifying education and experience as referenced above totaling 12 months using D and E above, may be used to qualify for this position.

Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, and abilities) in the following areas:

Knowledge of inventory/purchasing management policies and procedures.
Knowledge of automated inventory management and supply systems.
Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
Ability to identify and resolve material provisioning problems.
