Heavy Mobile Equipment Repair Inspector

This position is located in the Inspection Branch of the Inspection/Test/Training/Quality Assurance Division, Lifting & Handling Department. This position entails performing inspection and test functions on hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, structural, electrical, solid, state, computerized, and mechanical/electrical components and systems on various types of cranes such as Portal cranes, Derrick cranes, floating cranes, cab operated/gantry cranes, bridge/overhead traveling cranes, and track/barge mounted cranes. This position is located at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, ME.
KEY REQUIREMENTS
* You must be a US Citizen.
* Suitable for Federal employment as determined by background investigation.
* You must obtain and maintain a security clearance.
* CURRENT FEDERAL EMPLOYEES MUST SUBMIT A SF-50.
DUTIES:
Perform periodic maintenance inspections and emergent deficiency inspections of Weight Handling Equipment (WHE).
Identify deficiencies which preclude continuous safe equipment operation and advise the supervisor and cognizant codes of deficiencies requiring engineering resolution.
Initiate the proper corrective documents for engineering or shop work, perform in-process and acceptance inspections of work performed, and conduct appropriate operational checks or tests to ensure acceptable quality and satisfactory work completion.
Inspect and certify all hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, structural, electrical, solid state, computerized, and mechanical/electrical components and systems equipment to the load test director during the certification test, interim test, and stability test and inspection test periods.
Inspect and troubleshoot hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, structural, electrical, solid state, computerized, and mechanical/electrical components and systems equipment during removal, repair, alteration, overhaul, installation and alignment.
Perform in-process and post-completion inspections of repairs and modifications, ensuring conformance to written detailed work instructions, contracts, and specifications.
Perform Load Test Director functions for category 3 WHE, and on an as needed basis, expedite scheduling of category 1 & 2 cranes, by directing the inspection and operational actions of a team for final testing and certifications of WHE.
Perform crane and railroad rail inspection, testing and certification.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to do the work of a Heavy Mobile Equipment Repair Inspector without more than normal supervision such as:

Inspected and certified hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, structural, electrical, solid state, computerized, and mechanical/electrical components and systems equipment to the load test director during the certification test, interim test, stability test and inspection test periods. 5. Disassembled, repaired, and assembled machinery and equipment components including hydraulic, and pneumatic, electrical components such as brake mechanisms, hoists, spider gears, power take-offs, pumps, drive motors. 6. Performed tasks such as directed by the Load test Director during conductance of load tests on WHE. 7. Removing, replacing and fitting to proper tolerances within 0.001 or closer, bushings, bearings, journals, shafts, gears, pins, rollers and sleeves.
