Lead the facilities engineering department in design and development of complex projects that include electrical, mechanical, and architectural design in support of Maine facility expansions and renovations. Build a strong functional Engineering team, developing personnel as well as developing core competence. Interaction, coordination and teamwork with not only other engineering disciplines both internal and external but also functional areas of operations and administrative functions critical to success.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities include:

Management of personnel including all various engineering disciplines and technicians.

Provide engineering support on major projects and backup support for maintenance activities.

Provide technical and business direction in analysis, specification development, design, review, fabrication, functional leadership and testing of a variety of subsystems, including:

o Electromechanical

o Industrial design/enclosure

o Design/ergonomic

o Architectural design

Develop a strong functional engineering team, building a healthy environment of good communication with a balance of creativity and process.

Establish strong standards and good design and development practices.

Provide leadership for good documentation and verification of systems under design.

Oversee the completion of major engineering projects throughout our business locations.

Ensure adequate training and personal development plans are in place.

Develop and/or recommend appropriate facilities, suppliers, components, equipment, tools, and resources necessary to complete the design, fabrication, implementation, and testing of new systems or facility projects.

Qualifications

EDUCATION: Bachelor s degree in mechanical engineering or mechanical/industrial development. Professional Engineers License preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

Prefer experience from the architectural design industry.

A minimum of 7 years of experience in an engineering field with demonstrated success.

A minimum of 3 years experience in management of engineers.

Experience in the development and completion of engineered solutions.

Solid experience with CAD tools in mid size company environment.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Strong leadership skills.

Effective communication skills.

Ability to multi-task.

Ability to synthesize diverse engineering and business requirements into straightforward architectures.

Ability to work with and on cross-functional development teams.

Organizational development strategy and tactical skills.

Knowledge of industrial design/enclosure design/ergonomics concept development, design, and implementation.

Proficient in general drafting practices and fundamentals with the latest ANSI/ASME standards.

Proficient in the selection and use of appropriate electromechanical test equipment.

Proficient with MS Office.

Strengths in analysis and design and development are required.

Must maintain a valid driver s license

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Lift loads as much as fifty (50) pounds.

Assemble and disassemble instrumentation using power and hand tools, operate machine shop equipment.

Use various test equipment.

Some travel.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work in a combination of office, laboratory, and manufacturing environments.
