You'll be a key player in developing, planning and implementing capital projects as well as current and future systems. This is a position where you'll enjoy a wide scope of responsibilities from project and personnel management, to long-range planning in electrical engineering and process control systems. If you're passionate about what you do and excited about the chance to stretch your abilities, this position will challenge you to succeed. You'll not only achieve personal and professional growth, you'll also join a successful global company in the midst of a strong growth initiative, leading to an expanding range of opportunities.
FMC Corporation is a global diversified chemical company serving agricultural, industrial and consumer markets for more than a century with innovative solutions, applications and products. FMC BioPolymer is the largest and most experienced producer of carrageenan, alginates and microcrystalline cellulose worldwide. During the past 60 years, FMC BioPolymer has established a tradition for providing high quality ingredients to the food, pharmaceutical and personal care industries.
Responsibilities:
The Role
In this role, added to accommodate our growth, you will provide technical assistance for the installation and maintenance of electrical and process control instrumentation equipment at our Rockland Plant. You'll be strategically developing and planning new and future systems, and maintaining and adjusting control strategy on chemical operations. This includes scheduling and coordinating project work, providing construction overview for project and maintenance work, and providing troubleshooting skills to the Technical Support Group and Maintenance Operations. You will also perform project engineering/management on a variety of capital projects.
Specifically you will:
* Coordinate and schedule all maintenance and project construction electrical and instrument work.
* Support, maintain, and expand state of the art networks, historians, and virtual systems.
* Work with the Maintenance Planning Engineer, coordinating the two-week project schedule with a longer-term plan. Maintain at least a two-month work schedule and update it weekly.
* Assist the Maintenance Operations group in designing, coordinating and planning electrical and instrumentation technical training for the maintenance technicians.
* Act as a day-to-day problem solving resource by utilizing your analytical capabilities and plant experience to determine problem definitions and resolutions.
* Manage one direct report, a Project Technician, and oversee Process Technicians and Consultants.
* Prepare AFEs, project background and research, establish project costs, rate of return (ROR) and benefits, and generate and evaluate project alternatives.
* Track project costs, determine future costs, monitor change of scope and budget adjustments, control project schedule, coordinate and schedule contractors and engineering firms as required to meet the project load.
* Promote safety awareness and assure that all safety reviews are performed on assigned projects and all applicable OSHA safety issues are addressed during design, construction, and the operation of a given project.
* Review all the electrical and instrumentation design aspects on capital projects from design to implementation and maintenance.
* Identify, review and document the long-range plant electrical/instrumentation requirements, taking into account the Capital and Facility Plans with respect to plant power distribution and WDPF support systems. Manage these systems to accommodate plant growth.
Keys to Success
To find success in this position, you'll first need to be a fast and thorough learner. You'll be challenged to study our systems and understand how things are done at FMC and our facility. We expect, from an Engineering standpoint, you'll be up and running by the three month mark, but we'll start you with smaller projects as you acclimate to our systems and learn the mechanics of your role. You'll have plenty of support and will be paired with the existing E&I Engineer as you train.
To find long range success, you'll need to be passionate about the work and dedicated to carrying it out. You will also need strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with cross-functional departments and all levels of employees, management, and consultants. You should be a strong communicator and a leader who can influence from both authoritative and non-authoritative platforms. While team and leadership skills are essential, you'll be equally comfortable working independently doing hands-on programming and other tasks. On a high level, you should take ownership of your projects, have the investigative drive to solve problems, the ability to learn on the fly, and the personality to push yourself forward, looking for a better way and driving results.
