Jobing Description

Education Technicians provide intensive supervision/direction to children ages 8-20 with Autism Spectrum Disorders and varying medical, emotional and behavioral challenges. Services are strength based and designed to increase children?s ability to function successfully and safely and are provided in a context of trusting/supportive relationships between children, families and staff members. RESPONSIBILITIES included but not limited to: Assists the Classroom Teacher to ensure a safe environment while providing supervision to students and acting immediately to remove all dangers or threats to the welfare of students in care. Assists with ensuring individualized schedules are followed and documented and daily care needs are attended to: grooming, medication management, mealtimes, daily hygiene needs, ABA programming, etc. Assumes responsibility for monitoring behavior modification systems for classroom. Provide supervision and direction in a compassionate and respectful manner, while assisting children in developing communication skills and/or utilization of communication systems or devices to enable them to express needs and wants with a greater independence or effectiveness. Assist children in diminishing frequency of crisis behaviors utilizing Applied Behavior Analysis and Cognitive-Behavioral programming. Maintain calm readiness to perform crisis intervention duties including the use of passive restraint techniques as needed to ensure safety of each child and others. Act as an advocate and representative of the child by sharing observations and data to treatment team members and other staff members, as needed.

Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS: Four-year degree required Current Maine DOE authorization for Education Technician level III and CHRC, required Experience preferred HOURS: Full-time 1832 hours, Non-exempt, Year-round School The candidate must pass a Maine State clearance, which is processed by KidsPeace as well as possess a valid Driver's License. The candidate must pass a Physical & Drug Screening & possess the ability to attend and successfully complete all KidsPeace sponsored trainings.
