Actuarial Student Leadership Program

The Actuarial Development Program (ADP) at Unum has been in existence for over 40 years, and provided guidance and support to hundreds of actuaries early in their careers. Many have built on the foundation provided by the ADP and grown into executive leaders at Unum and across the insurance industry.

Unum's ADP is built around three key elements:

* Targeted development of actuarial, financial and leadership skills
* Rotational work assignments to promote broad business awareness
* Comprehensive exam support towards the pursuit of Fellowship

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

1. Prepare and analyze data for use in actuarial experience studies, valuation or pricing projects
2. Assist in maintenance of pricing and underwriting tools
3. Develop reserve factors
4. Develop experience analysis reviews
5. Assist in maintaining valuation system
6. Assist in preparation of financial reports and tax returns
7. Provide support for underwriting case specific questions
8. Learn current pricing models and risk management practices
9. Contribute to product development and re-pricing initiatives
10. Assist in preparation of state filings as needed
11. Communicate research results to manager both in written format and orally
12. Prepare routine reports
13. Pursue membership in the Society of Actuaries through the examination process
14. May perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

* Bachelor degree required; GPA 3.2 or above
* Extensive coursework in statistics, math, economics, finance or actuarial science
* Credit for at least one actuarial exam; limited relevant work experience preferred
* Desire and ability to pass actuarial exams
* Strong math aptitude and problem solving ability
* Computer programming aptitude and knowledge (minimum of 6 months hands on statistical programming e.g. SAS, MatLab, Minitab or heavy Excel)
* Solid written and verbal communication skills
* Meets the standards for this position, as defined in the Talent Management Framework.
